Mandatory 10-Digit Dialing is Coming to Austin. Are you Ready?

Do you know why most managed IT approaches fail? We do.

Mandatory 10-digit dialing is coming to Austin next Saturday, June 1st, in conjunction with Austin’s new 737 area code. Even when you’re dialing another 512-area number from your existing 512-area number, you will now have to dial the full number, including area code.

Now would be a good time to make sure that you’ve updated any 7-digit phone numbers programmed into your business phone or phone system to 10 digits. Here are a few things to check:

Most of these items are easy fixes, and you can correct them on-the-fly if you are unable to connect when you use them. But a few of them, like having 7-digit logic in your phone system, may go unnoticed unless your caller is courteous enough to notify you of the problem. So a little testing after June 1st would be good.

For our existing IT Freedom Voice service customers, we have used 10-digit dialing in all of our dial-plan programming from day one, so we have the second bullet above covered for you. For the other items that are end-user specific, I’d recommend giving your staff a heads-up.
