Are you thinking about making the move to Microsoft Office 365, but have questions before really starting the process? You’re not alone, and as Microsoft Cloud Solutions Providers we have the answers and experience with all of it!
We put together a list of our top 7 most commonly seen questions about Office 365 for business and answered them for you.
1. What all does Office 365 include?
Well, Office 365 subscriptions are built out into 3 different plans.
Office 365 Business Essentials
This plan includes Microsoft’s business class email and their other standard business services. These services include: Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive, Skype for Business, Microsoft Teams, and Yammer.
Office 365 Business:
This plan includes the entire suite of Microsoft Office applications and OneDrive. The suite of applications includes: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Access (PC only). What this doesn’t include is the majority of their standard business services and their business class email.
Office 365 Business Premium:
This plan really has it all. The premium license includes Microsoft’s business-class email, their full suite of applications and all of their standard business services.
*Both the Premium and Business licenses cover 5 phones, tablets, PCs or Macs per user.
2. How many users can I have on my plan?
Each Microsoft for Business plan supports up to 300 users. If you have more than that, you would be looking at a Microsoft Office 365 Enterprise license.
3. What is OneDrive?
OneDrive is Microsoft’s cloud-based storage platform with desktop, browser and mobile access to ensure you have the ability to view your files from anywhere. OneDrive also allows for collaboration within office applications. Each 365 for Business plan comes with 1TB of storage in OneDrive.
4. If we already have licenses for the Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Etc.) do we need to purchase them again under Office 365?
No! That’s what the Office Business Essentials plan is perfect for. If you already have all of the applications you need and are just looking to migrate to the 365 email and business services the Essentials plan is perfect. And when the time comes that your current license for the office applications expires you can easily upgrade to the Business Premium plan giving you access to everything you need.
5. What is the difference between “Office” and “Office 365”?
Office 365 is the suite of services including Microsoft exchange email and the various services listed within the Business Essentials plan.
Microsoft Office is just the desktop software suite that gives you access to Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook.
We definitely understand how confusing it can be though since the Premium 365 plan includes both the 365 services and the Office suite of desktop applications.
6. Can I work offline using 365?
Absolutely! If you have the desktop applications on your computer you can always work on documents within those. BUT, it’s important to remember that if you’ve been working on a document and saving to OneDrive make sure you sync all of your files before you take your device offline to ensure you’re working with the latest version of your document. You also need to be sure to sync your files once again as soon as you are back online to make sure your changes are all saved and backed up to OneDrive.
7. Can I go about migrating my business to Office 365 on my own?
This is a tricky question to answer. If you have someone on staff with the technical background and experience to take on a project like this, it is possible. That being said, if no one on your team has successfully completed a project like this it’s our recommendation that you absolutely speak and work with an with an IT professional.
