We're In!
We're in! After over a year of site selection, lease negotiation, office space and data center design, bidding, planning, construction, and moving, IT Freedom is now up and running in our new office and data center near Burnet Road and Research Boulevard. Check out our new digs:
- 8400 square feet of combined office and data center space -- nearly triple the size of our prior leases
- Energy-conserving design by our good friends at Barley & Pfeiffer Architects
- Fiber-optic connectivity to multiple Internet and dial-tone providers
- Redundant AC and generator-backed power systems
- A large conference, training, and demonstration room
- Modest locker rooms and an on-site gym for our bike-commuters and in-house fitness classes
This was not your average office move. In addition to moving our office across the parking lot, we also had to move our entire data center across town, under cover of darkness, with as little customer downtime as possible. We had to move our generator, AC units, battery backups, servers, network hardware, server cabinets, etc., as well as all of our customer T1 and fiber circuits. It was literally an "all hands on deck" project, and this great IT Freedom team pulled it all off in a single night, with only a handful of minor issues that we resolved right away. I'm really proud of the detailed planning and execution that the team put into this move.
When we first started shopping for a new office, I must confess that it never occurred to me that we might end up with such a valuable asset for IT Freedom. We were overflowing the old office, and we wanted to bring our then-separate data center in house. That was it. But in the short time we've been here, the facility -- even only partially unpacked -- has surprised me as a great showcase for our networking, Internet, and voice services. It's real and tangible. Guests who've taken my tour have been blown away by it all, and the data center, in particular.
We've not yet set a date for an open house, but one is coming down the pike, so stay tuned!
