History
Carey Jung founded IT Freedom in Austin, Texas in 1999 with the goal of bringing big-company IT management expertise to small businesses at an affordable, predictable price, so they could compete effectively in their markets, despite their size. The advent at that time of broadband Internet access and low-cost networking solutions (Linux, in particular) enabled IT Freedom to create and grow a virtual enterprise of small-business customers, all leveraging the standard services of a single, consolidated IT department.
At the time, virtually all small-business network consulting was done on an hourly basis, which is reactive by nature and leaves all budgetary risk squarely in the customer's lap. Where is the incentive to fix a network problem the first time, when more network problems generate more hourly billings?
So, we made the key business decision to charge a flat monthly fee for our recurring IT services, regardless of the effort it took to provide those services. It was a risky decision, and we weren't sure it would work, because we couldn't find anybody else doing it at the time. But it did work, and we've been doing it ever since. The flat fee gave our customers a predictable budget, and it gave us the incentive to do things right the first time and to continually improve and standardize our services.
Since our founding, we have continously improved, standardized, and expanded our services, adding high quality, continuously monitored Internet service and a very advanced Voice service to our portfolio.
Our company has expanded, as well. From our meager home-office beginnings, we have grown to about twenty people at our office on Burnet Road in Austin, and we have additional data center facilities in Austin and Houston. It has been a great ride so far, and we owe it all to our fantastic and loyal community of customers.
