IT Freedom TeamUp™ Beats Gmail?

Well, in a manner of speaking.... CNet News reported the other day that the Zimbra Collaboration Environment, which is the underlying email environment of IT Freedom TeamUp™, topped Google's Gmail in number of deployed mailboxes, with over 40 million in use. Although very few people on the street have heard of it, Zimbra is a rising star in enterprise messaging systems, and is especially strong in the educational markets.

The article also touches on Zimbra's open architecture and easy ability to be integrated or "mashed up" with other applications. One such mash-up or "Zimlet", for example, automatically creates a "click to dial" link for any recognizable phone number in an email message or contact. (Hmm, wouldn't it be cool to tie that into our Voice Freedom™ service....)

We tend to think of Zimbra/TeamUp™ as a Microsoft Exchange killer, but this article shows that it even holds its own against free services like Gmail. It's nice to see this validation of the Zimbra platform for our customers. The two most important things we get with TeamUp™ are 1) freedom -- from being locked into expensive, proprietary solutions like Exchange, and 2) control -- being able to host it ourselves on our own servers and modify and integrate it as needed.
